STRESS – It’s as bad as smoking 5 cigarettes a day and increases your chances of heart disease by 27%

according to a study done at the Columbia University Medical Center [1].

What is stress though? Stress is often a situation that triggers certain emotions of anxiety, fear, overwhelm, anger, sadness, or frustration. It may be pressure from work that’s keeping your mind racing in a state of go-go-go, to the point of not being able to fall asleep at night. Stress can also come from your financial situation, your relationship with loved ones, or your health. For each person there may be a different trigger which causes the tension, feelings of anxiousness, or an explosion of anger, and a need to take action in order to ease the stress.

Stress Wreaks Havoc On The Body

What stress does to the body is put you in a state of fight-or-flight thereby creating tension, pain, reducing circulation, triggering digestive disorders, or causing things like insomnia. Everybody’s body is different, and so where you feel your stress is going to be different compared with someone else. Some people may get migraines, while others get a cramp in their stomach. The point is - Stress causes problems in your health. Even after the stress has gone – it’s not uncommon for the body to still hold tension as a way of protecting itself. As a result, you may be stuck with your pain/illness longer than expected even though the stressful situation has passed.

Hit The “Reset” Button

Wouldn’t it be great if we could just hit the reset button in life? Have your body let go of the stress, tension or pain and feelings of anxiousness? In some ways, that’s exactly what acupuncture may do for you.

Acupuncture For Stress

Acupuncture works by bringing your mind and body’s attention to specific areas which facilitate healing pain and discomfort, or releasing stuck emotions. Often times with individuals faced with stress we focus on mind calming points. In fact, research studies have demonstrated that acupuncture releases endorphins in the body, which are the happy hormones that help you feel joy, relaxed and at ease. As a result, you may notice less tension in the body, better sleep at night, and feeling more relaxed and at ease – therefore less stressed.

We can’t always control what stressors we face - we can, however, take the steps necessary to help the body confront, and eliminate the effects of stress in the form of pain, illness, or feelings of anxiousness.
